for another, that one photo a day thing has been turning out pretty awesomely.
for a third, holy buttfuck this week has been exhausting. after tallying it all up, i did 6.5 hours' worth of shooting from monday to friday, and a good 10.5 hours of editing over two days (3 hours one day, and 7.5 another. jesus christ). on top of that, 2 tests, one of which i probably fucked up. for the most part, i'm pretty happy about the photos for people i took this week. other people seem to be, too. so there's that.
ANYWAYS, my single-in photos:
from where i left off, day 6:
nothing amazing about this shot, but that night was tons of fun. this was at allyoucaneatsushi, and this was the last one left. if you don't eat it, kids in africa will starve. if you do, you're a pig for eating the last one. ;D followed by go karting in which calvin and i pwned. that was some pretty funnnn shitee
this shot isn't much to comment on for me. i was too lazy to go out for a photo and so just decided to torture test the super-tak's bokeh. i think it did rather sexily well here.
mom reading her bible. i love this shot, personally. the colours, textures, all of it. if only her hand was further down the page, but i really really like this. i'm a little narcissistic right now but that's okay. one thing this shot's taught me about my super-tak is that it's super smooth - that transition from in focus to out of focus is really gradual and gentle, yet it's incredibly sharp in the infocus areas.
"Into the Light"
i'm a fan of this shot too. it would've had more epic clouds if i were quicker in getting my camera out, but this works too. i do admit i cheated a bit in that there were two birds in the light, and i cloned one out to make the loner more significant.
"Offering to the Sky"
again, quite like this shot. it's a bit darker than it should be because photobucket fails, but yeah, like it. shame the red berries refuse to get any brighter though =p
this one was interesting to me because the blue of this car stood out strongly in the rain, whereas most colours were muted by it. pretty happy with my post on this one, with the colour pop and such. as you can see in the 100% crop below, this shot is ridiculously sharp.
and finally, caught up to today: day 12. i have 3 that I really like, so here they are:
actually first, backstory. remember when my tak50 did this?
and the store's repair shop couldn't do shit about it? well, in practice it doesn't happen too often, but still does sometimes. this was one of them, but with a little bit of monochrome conversion and other work, i think it becomes a strength in the photo:
you can see the tendril-y shit in the top left. kinda gives it a vintage look like this, so i guess it's not something i should hate on in some cases.
"Closing Time"
originally, this shot was supposed to be of some lady who was sitting further left, and the shadows would have been leading to her; she would've been far left in the frame. unfortunately, just as the sun peaked out from the clouds (see above photo - so that the shadows were stronger), she finished her lunch and left. shame, she was hot. anyways, this guy was the next best thing, but a bit too close and so the framing was tighter than i would've preferred. still, it works nice. i took a few so that i could get his face, as he was looking out the window every few seconds.
and finally (fo realz)....
"To Distant Shores"
i adore this shot. it probably would've worked better if i did a tight crop on the planes and lower clouds, but i like it as it is too. but the story behind this is that i was writing, and then looked out the window to see this scene. the two planes glinted in the light of the falling sun, and it just looked spectacular. dashed out of my chair to the window to grab the shot, and damn am i glad i did. awesome thing is that even though it was through a window, it's still sharp as holy hell.
now, why was i at yvr? doing supplemental apps. why? because starbucks #2 was full. why was i there, and why is it #2? because starbucks #1 was full. and why was i there? because the aquarium was full. and why did i go there? because i wanted to write my supplemental apps next to an exhibit there and be awesome. that didn't quite work out. so it turned out being 2 hours spent bussing all over the goddamn city. ah well, it resulted in 3 epic photos, so i won't complain any time soon. now just to finish my apps....so much for post-term-two being stress free ._.
