marchle showers bring april flowers.

so i posted like twice in february.

let's try to fix that this month : D

first off: my secret plans to give rosanne a kindle have come to fruition, muhahahaha. it was good times giving it to her (hhhhhhhhhah), always love seeing facial expressions and all.

funny thing is as i typed first off, that wasn't what i meant to type first off. FIRST OFF FO REALS, i finally went rock climbing again today! i don't know how long it's been - must be at least 3 or 4 months, wow. and man, the first climb had my arms shaking already. and the second. actually, after the second i was pretty okay, though when i got  home my arms were so tired i could barely squeeze my bulb blower. but yeah, it felt great getting back into the gym again.

gym. i hate gyms. as in, gyms just for workout, a la fitness world or ymca. i think (despite my hours logged over the years on the computer) that i genuinely do enjoy exercise. the thing is, i just can't stand exercise for the sake of exercise. i'll run a mile over the course of a soccer game, pull my body weight during a climb, but if i break it down into just the running or just the weight lifting, i simply won't do it - it's so goddamn boring. i think that's part of what draws me into photography too - i really want to get out more, but i don't want to get out for the sake of getting out. but getting out for the sake of photography - now that works.

SPEAKING OF WHICHHHH so on pentaxforums they've been doing this challenge thing for a while - one photo a day with the same lens. i chose the legendary, sexy, back from repair shop super-tak 50/1.4 - i want to get to know this beast more. i originally wanted to post with every photo i took but laziness took over, so here's the first four shots for the first four days of march:

Day one: inspired by rosanne's comment when she came over one day about how my bathroom tile thingers were so depressing. Partly because I really don't know how to edit to make things look happy (hopefully I'll practice that in the summer when my puppies, sunshine, and rainbows quota is fulfilled), and partly because I took inspiration from that comment, is what gave rise to this final product. that was really not a sentence.

Day two: a little lazy on this one, but at the same time pretty meaningful to me. this was wednesday evening. the last day of my tests for term two. the end of stress. and finally, an empty, notes-free, homework-free desk.

Day three: I was driving home over the lion's gate bridge when I saw a glorious scene - thunderclouds over head, ships coming into vancouver, the sunset hiding just underneath the clouds. Since I was driving (traffic was slow, but still constant movement), I just focussed to infinityish and spammed. most of my photos were of the car window pillar thing, but I did like how this turn out, even though it only got mostly the clouds/railing/the very top of the sunset/none of the ships

Day four: on the way to rock climbing today, my mom kept on doing this - traffic was pretty frustrating. That, with the constant rain and the wrinkles in her hands inspired this capture. sometimes i'm not sure what to make of these photos. on the one hand, it's kinda spontaneous and pedestrian - just of my mom, in my car. didn't go to any great lengths, run over the rocks of whytecliff or whatever, to get them. and a lot of the appeal (in this case, the colours/saturation) comes from post. of course, the composition and detail and technical stuff is in camera, obviously, but it feels like it  doesn't have as much meaning as a shot i stalked around for.

though, upon reflection on that statement, i guess it could be argued that practically every shot is spontaneous,  unless i actually know the exact spot and the light i'll have and all those other variables and plan for it. or like studio shots or whatever. and just because i walked around in the woods for a few hours and saw something that appealed to me, or was in a car and something appealed to me - those 2 (excuse my lack of grammatically coherent sentences) ought to be the same, or at least have the same potential for impact and wow and jizz and all that good stuff.

my 2 cents fighting each other, right there. now i have no cents.

speaking of being broke! i has lowepro slingshot 102 AW. it is sexy. if i wanted to be ridiculous, it could hold every lens i own and keep them firmly padded. for realistic stuff, i can hold a camera/lens + 3 other lenses (my  goal setup is 3 takumar lenses, 3 modern lenses - my dynamic trios, depending on my mood/needs of the day - therefore, i'd only ever use a camera/lens + two other lenses). and my tripod, and my filters, all of which are better padded than in my messenger bag - which wasn't bad, but this bag is purpose-made for photography, and it shows. alternatively, i could have a lens/camera + 2 lenses and the flash (though this setup gets a little cramped). I love that it can fit all these setups on demand, and still be more compact than my messenger bag while keeping shit better protected. this awesome.

speaking of being broke #2!

i completed my takumar trio the other day. it is amazing shit. got the SMC 135/3.5 - in store, it was pretty dusty on the front element. a good blow and wipe (shuddup bitch) later, and i was surprised - it was pretty much totally mint condition glass. looooove it.

and, if all works out, i just might achieve my dream goal of my modern lens line up soon......fingers crossed ;D

but that'd be kinda boring. cause i'd genuinely have no need for any more lenses after that. which would make life a little boring, to not be scouring the net for deals... ah well. i'd have lens nirvana.

well, i'd need a fast wide angle lens, but both cost and availability (the only fast wide angle i know of is like nikon/canon's 24/1.4, the former of which is in the $2k range and the latter, idk. either way, i'll never have one  because of that). or maybe a tilt/shift wide angle. but neither of them are available in pentax mount, and both are incredibly expensive, so that means no temptation for me = happy camper.

though, some radio triggers would be useful.......
