front/backyard macroooo

what with school and all, i haven't had much chance to get out and do some real photowalks, but i've been getting some cravings for photo regardless.. soo, nothing for it but to take two steps outside into my front yard, whip out the tripod and do some macro with the flowers out front (and back)

i was trying to go for those waterdroplet macro shots where the drop acts as a wide angle lens so you can see other stuff in it. it sorta worked here, but i couldn't get close enough even at a 1:1 ratio. next time i'll tape my 50mm to my macro lens and see how well 2:1 does with waterdrops

i originally only saw the legs of this thing, so when i moved a little bit over and realised it was a spider (or something), i was like ohhh sheeet. but yeah, here it is. i ended up scaring it off by accident, the thing is pretty huge.

bokeh with the m50/1.7
this lens was always really tons of fun for a $50 lens to begin with, and after these shots, i love it more than ever - the bokeh on it wide open just looks awesomeeeee to me.

and also, today, we finally got our first photo assignments of the year - we have to draw our name (and a symbol) in light with a long exposure/flashlight/in a dark room, which is kinda boring cause it's not that hard, but also: do flower shots (gogo bloedel conservatory!), sculptures (probably the orca thing infront of the aquarium's main entrance), buildings (not sure yet. maybe a long exposure of vancouver from one of the bridges?), and yeah. super excited to get out and do those shots! even though there is a certain magic with film photography, i've never been as excited to go out and shoot stuff as i am now, with a digital; it's so awesome.
